In a misguided attempt to cool off from the Denver heat, we headed north to the Olympic peninsula in Washington (where it was a mere 85 degrees, with humidity). We explored Olympic National park including Hurricane Ridge, the Elwha River valley (and old dam site), Hoh rain forest, wild beaches and Sol Duc valley. We also took the ferry across the strait of Juan de Fuca to Canada. This was a trip of many firsts for Amy: first plane ride, boat ride, train ride, seeing an ocean, leaving the country, and exploring a rain forest!
