This page shows the traffic patterns between Denver, Colorado and Silverthorne, Colorado along I-70 between Exit 260 (C-470) and Exit 205 (Silverthorne). The primary motivation for creating this page was to analyze when traffic tends to peak (so one can avoid it). In the winter months, traffic tends to peak along this route in the morning around 8am and in the evening around 4pm; these times coincide with the ski area lift operation times. The summer traffic patterns are a bit more sporadic but traffic is higher on Fridays and Sundays as people escape the city to head to the mountains.
The data is an aggregation of drive times between a number of segments, therefore doesn't represent a realistic expectation of how long it will take you to do the drive - but it's a reasonable approximation to show when traffic flow slows down and when you should plan your departures based on past trends. If the drive time drops to "0" on the plot, that's an indication that the highway is closed in that direction. This may be due to an accident or adverse driving conditions.
Hopefully this tool helps determine the best drive time to and from the mountains -- that's what it's there for. If you have any comments or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at . If this is helpful to you, consider buying me a coffee!
