The drive times come from a live traffic feed (HERE) that is sampled about every ten minutes for I-70 between Exit 259 (C-470) and Exit 205 (Silverthorne) and, separately, between Frisco and Copper Mountain (Exit 195). Each reading adds up the travel time of every stretch of road in between, so it is a reasonable measure of when traffic slows down rather than a promise about how long your own drive will take. Readings go back to February 2022.

The primary reason for this page is to work out when traffic peaks so you can avoid it. In the winter it tends to peak westbound around 7–9am and eastbound around 2–6pm on weekends, when the ski areas open and close; off-season patterns are more sporadic, with Fridays westbound and Sundays eastbound the busiest.

Typical is the median reading for the same weekday and time of day over the previous eight weeks. Plan for is the 90th percentile: nine trips in ten were faster than that. A shaded gap in the chart means the road was closed in that direction or the feed returned no data. The slow-stretch view is available from February 2026, when the per-stretch readings started being stored.
