This year's hut trip was to Uncle Bud's Hut, located at 11,380 feet in the mountains above Leadville. From the trailhead at Turquoise Lake we had a 6.2 mile hike that climbed 1,640 feet. It was windy and cold for most of the trip, so we didn't spend as much time out on the deck as we normally do; but some of us got out to hike a nearby summit, and others got out to ski/board a nearby slope with about a foot of great backcountry powder!
Since this trip was over Superbowl weekend (and the Broncos were playing), Sarah had made preparations to throw one heck of a Superbowl party at altitude -- the hut was close enough to Leadville that we all had cell service, and her iPad mini had enough coverage to stream the entire game! It's the first hut trip Superbowl party I've ever been to!
